Staff Training / Staffing Levels / Current Staff

Here at Stone House we are proud of the fact that most our staff have studied for, and hold NVQ Certificates 2 or 3, or an equivalent. Most of the staff have First Aid Certificates, and all caring staff members have attended Safer Handling courses. All new care staff who started from 1st April 2105 will receive a care certificate on completion of all mandatory courses that we be allocated to them within their probation period. Vari-ous other courses are taken annual to enable staff to be proficient in dif-ferent aspects of caring, and our cooks and kitchen assistants each hold a Food Hygiene Certificate.

We are very committed here at Breach House to enabling our staff to gain the knowledge and skills they need to do their work well.

This is achieved by ensuring our own comprehensive induction programme is successfully completed by all our new staff. This includes formal training sessions and work-based practise alongside experienced senior staff members to enable them to develop the knowledge, skills and confidence needed to deliver quality care to our own high standards.

Our existing staff also receives annual refresher training in all mandatory topics including First Aid, COSHH, Basic Food Hygiene, People Handling, Fire Safety, Infection Control, Health & Safety, Adult Safeguarding Procedures, Drug Administration and Bereavement. In addition we have staff that are trained in continence care, dementia care, foot care, person centred care and nutritional needs of the elderly.
We have three trained Fire Wardens on site, a qualified First Aider on every shift and are also currently undertaking the nationally recognised Gold Standards Framework in End of Life Care, which we hope will lead to accreditation in the near future.

We are very proud that all of our Care staff are now enrolled onto National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) in Care at level 3 or above, which exceeds the statutory requirements of the Care Quality Commission, which is currently 50% or above. Furthermore all staff have now either completed a Dementia programme or they are enrolled.

Our Kitchen Manager is also qualified to NVQ level 2 in Catering and holds his intermediate CIEH Food Hygiene certificate (and a 5* rating with Environmental Health for food hygiene). As does the home hold a 5* rating in food hygiene.
